Steve Kerr: Warriors coach and ex-player Leandro Barbosa a candidate for emergency 10-day contract

“We gonna be championship.” These are the famous words of former Warriors player and current coach Leandro Barbosa. The Brazilian-born player was a key component to Golden State’s NBA title run in 2015, when he uttered that phrase well before his team hoisted the Larry O’Brian Trophy.

Apparently, the “Brazilian Blur” is still in great shape. Coach Steve Kerr revealed that he believes Barbosa is still good enough to play in the NBA and even help his team win in a pinch. He looks so good, in fact, Kerr says the team has considered signing him to an emergency 10-day contract if needed, per Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group.

This is a bit wacky, but unfortunately, this whole emergency Barbosa thing makes some sense. As we are all painfully aware, we’re in the midst of a pandemic. On Sunday, the 76ers had to play a game with just seven players due to virus cases, contact tracing and injury. It’s easy to imagine a similar scenario popping up on any team, including the Warriors.

That’s just the kind of season it is. There are no fans in the stands for a reason. If the emergency 10-day contract does happen for Barbosa, however, how fun would that be? Given all the memories he’s given Warriors fans, it would be special. It would be best to keep Barbosa’s playing style in our mind’s eye though. They’re too perfect, and now’s the time for the current Warriors to stay healthy and make their own lasting moments.
