Well, it certainly didn’t take long for the fun vibe between Stephen Curry and LeBron James at the All-Star game to turn into an unsightly rumor.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Lakers superstar has begun buttering up Curry, the Warriors own superstar guard. James is well-known for remaining friendly with the best players in the NBA, just in case the opportunity for that player to join James’ team arrives via trade or free agency.
Windhorst’s comment comes courtesy of 95.7 The Game in San Francisco, by way of The Hoop Collective.
Windhorst covered the Cavaliers from 2003-08, so he’s definitely familiar with James’ ways. But does James really think Curry would leave the Warriors? He’s said multiple times he wants to retire in Golden State.
But as mentioned in the tweet, this appears to be wishful thinking for James, putting feelers out there if Curry and the Warriors “somehow” don’t come to an agreement. Curry is due for a contract extension, very possibly this summer; he’ll be a free agent following the 2021-22 campaign.
So while I called the rumor unsightly (really, James? You really think you’ve got a shot at this?) it’s just standard procedure for “The King.” Plus, having the two superstars on the same team would be unsightly, after they battled in the NBA Finals for four consecutive seasons.
But that All-Star game was fun wasn’t it? Yes, it was. However, I’d bet my bottom dollar that Curry and James are never on the same team unless such an exhibition is taking place. Still, James can always dream.
