Giants place two pitchers on IL after their second Covid-19 vaccination

Well, this is a new one. The San Francisco Giants have placed closer Jake McGee and starting pitcher Logan Webb on the injured list after they’ve felt the after effects of their second Covid-19 vaccination.

The news comes courtesy of Susan Slusser and the San Francisco Chronicle. Per Slusser’s report, the two players are on the Covid-19 injury list, which means they can return without a minimum time on the list. The team hopes McGee and Webb will “be back to normal in the next day or two.”

It’s supposed to be normal to have some side effects from the Covid-19 vaccines, so this should come as no surprise, but it’s certainly a new aspect to sports in 2021. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green also missed a game immediately following his vaccination, though the team never made a direct connection between Green’s shot and his missed playing time.

But Major League Baseball appears prepared, since it has a Covid-19 injury list. The Giants are in the midst of an outstanding start, and this could just be a bump in the road as they’re on the literal road, battling the Marlins and then the Phillies on an East Coast swing.
