Recent news of former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman’s arrest for alleged burglary, amid other possible allegations, has rocked the NFL. San Francisco’s general manager John Lynch says he’s reached out to Sherman and his wife, Ashley Moss, to let them know he has their back, however.
That’s because Sherman is not only one of the best cornerbacks of this century, but he’s proven to be a powerful and important voice for players on NFL rosters across the league as the vice president of the NFL Players Association executive committee.
The details of his arrest are sordid, and are detailed in a report by the San Francisco Chronicle that can be found here.
Currently a free agent, Sherman allegedly tried to break into his in-laws’ home in Washington state after running away from a single-car crash. Plus, also per the Chronicle, Sherman may face DUI and hit-and-run charges.
Another report, this one from the Associated Press, quoted Sherman’s father-in-law’s account of the night in question. He said of he felt the need to defend against Sherman with pepper spray as he tried to enter his home.
Sherman, a Stanford graduate, will appear before a judge on Thursday, according to multiple sources. Will Sherman lean on the 49ers for support? It’s hard to say. But this story is still unfolding, and the BASH will provide updates as further developments come to light.
