When the San Francisco 49ers face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in Santa Clara, neither team will be in the mood for pleasantries.
To be fair, it’s not as though they usually are. The two NFC West rivals are always surly when they see one another. But during Week 4 of the 2021 NFL campaign, the 49ers are coming off a tough, last-second loss to the Packers, and the Seahawks have lost two straight games and are 1-2.
49ers tight end George Kittle described the likely attitude of each team nicely after practice on Friday, comparing the contest to a “heavyweight fight.”
These two teams have certainly had a few such battles, notably in NFC Championship games of years past.
This year, the 49ers are in better shape at 2-1, but each team has the formidable Rams to deal with in the division and have to stack wins. Kittle’s health is a concern, but he’s reportedly likely to play on Sunday. He’s officially questionable with a calf injury.
As for the Seahawks, they’ve never lost three consecutive games with Russell Wilson at quarterback. That’s simply amazing. It’s only more motivation for the 49ers as the team attempts to put their frustrating loss to the Packers behind them.
