The Warriors’ six-game series win over the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals was a roller coaster-type affair, and a lot of that was related to the uneven performance of forward Draymond Green.
But by the end of the series, Green was locked in and had his best all-around game, notching 12 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. His specialty, however, is defense, and he played exceptionally in Game 6, as chronicled by Jackson Frank of Dime magazine.
Now that’s some elite defense, as only Green can pull off in his unique fashion. His style of defense allows the Warriors to play smaller lineups and blitz the opponent, as they did in Game 6, led by superstar Stephen Curry.
But the series wasn’t all roses for Green. After Green (masterfully) bullied the Celtics to push the Warriors to a Game 2 win, the fans in Boston were ready for him in Game 3, when they yelled “Draymond sucks,” among other nasty chants. Green responded with two dud games in a row.
As the Warriors responded to win three consecutive games to clinch the title, however, Green came alive and got the last laugh in Boston. Now, the entire NBA has to suffer his wrath in the form of elite trash talk.
Here he is calling the NBA Playoffs the “Warriors Invitational.” As I said, Green’s trash talk is as elite as his defense.
Green didn’t merely talk mess after winning it all, either. When fellow NBA player C.J. McCollum predicted the Celtics would win, Green clapped back with confidence, despite the Warriors being in serious trouble at the time, going into Boston tied 1-1 with the Celtics.
